Hi there! I’m Indigo, the creator and writer behind Pure Simplicity. I’m so glad you stopped by, and I hope my posts can help or encourage you in some way.

A bit about me:

I am a wife and stay-at-home-mom (well, sort of – more on that in a minute!). My daughter, Esther, is 8 months old and is such a delight! I always knew I wanted to have kids, but couldn’t have guessed what a wonderful blessing she would be. God-willing, we will have a few more in the years to come! My husband, Ben, is also an amazing part of my life, and we do as much as we can together. I am honored to build a family alongside him.

Ben and I both grew up in Alaska (funny story – we were friends as little kids!), and are proud to still call it our home. After finishing my Associates Degree, I traveled the Western US for almost two years. I worked for a little while in each place I went and saved money, then traveled somewhere new. I learned a lot and grew a lot, but eventually it was time to come home and start my own family.

Now, I stay at home with my daughter, except for the days we work on the farm! I help out part time at a local vegetable farm, taking care of various plants in the greenhouse and fields. Baby happily rides in her pack (or naps) as I work!

Things I love:

First and foremost, I love the Lord Jesus. He is the giver of life, and I am honored to reflect His beauty in what ways I can. I love Ben (husband) and Esther (daughter) more than anything else on earth, and the rest of my family as well. I love things that show true beauty, especially the outdoors and Alaska’s incredible mountains and wildlife. Another love of mine is traveling and seeing new things, as well as analyzing them and thinking about all the various aspects of people, places, and things (Psychology major! Ha.). On the more tame (ish) side of me, I love to read and write. Language is such an amazing tool, and I hope to use it to inspire and encourage anyone who I am privileged to use it with.

Now, where did this Pure Simplicity thing come from?

I’ve always liked for things to be as simple and uncomplicated as possible. When I traveled I kept all my belongings in a few bags/boxes in my truck – ready to go at any time! I haven’t always been such an advocate of natural living though. As a kid, my family made a lot of things at home, but that doesn’t automatically mean its healthy; and as I traveled, it would have been somewhat difficult to manage making my own face scrub and all-purpose-cleaners, since I often didn’t have my own kitchen to work with! Anyway,  I became somewhat more health-conscious when I returned to Alaska and became  a homemaker. I wanted my husband and myself to live long, healthy lives.

Then, shortly after our wedding, I got pregnant. Here was more than sufficient motivation! There was a tiny life inside me, and it was my job to protect it. The more I learned about how what we eat use, and live around affects us, the more inspired I was to adjust my lifestyle to one that would have the maximum benefit for my family. In addition, I didn’t want the clutter that is so prevalent now to disrupt my beautiful new family.

This lifestyle of Pure Simplicity is the answer to what that lifestyle would look like. Purity in as much as possible (for only God is truly Pure!), from food to household products to relationships. And Simplicity in those same things; I have noticed that the more “things” you add, whether it be ingredients in a recipe or clothes, the more complicated and unhealthy those things tend to be. It is my belief that a pure, simple lifestyle is what God intended for us, and the closer we stick to it, the happier we will be. He indeed set up in the Garden of Eden (the essence of Purity and Simplicity)!

I created Pure Simplicity (the website) because I want to share these principles with you. My initial goal was to keep my family healthy and happy, and now I want to expand that to anyone who has the same goals for their family. Welcome to living Pure Simplicity!
